Introduction

Malteser Hilfsdienst e.V. (MHD) is a Catholic aid organisation, established by Deutscher Caritas Verband, the biggest German Catholic charity organisation and two branches of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, Genossenschaft der Rheinisch-Westfälischen Malteser-Devotionsritter and Verein der Schlesischen Malteser-Ritter in Münster. The motto is "testimony of faith and help for the poor people". The organisation was established on 1 January 1953. Since 1956 the seat is in Köln.
The order is based on the German DRK-law, operating according to article 26 of the Geneva Conventions. The subdivisions are based on the Catholic bishoprics in Germany, furthermore in five regions and local groups. It has about 35,000 employees and 51,000 volunteers and more than 1,000,000 members and sponsors.

MHD Banners

 The banners of the organisation have ratio of approx. 2:1, are red and in base display the white Maltese cross, which is no surprise, at the top edge are white inscriptions either "Malteser" (see left image at top) or "Malteser Hilfsdienst", (see central image at top) sometimes with two additional thin vertical white stripes (see right image at top).

The youth organisation has basically the same banners but a different inscription "Malteser" " intertwined with "Jugend", the latter in hand writing.
